Mo Ghile Mear, "my gallant darling", is one of the most affecting songs to come out of the Jacobite world of the eighteenth century. The Irish poem by Seán Clárach Mac Domhnaill longs for the return of the exiled prince, and the air has travelled alongside its Scottish cousin Will Ye No Come Back Again ever since: two nations, one instrument, one story of longing.
